MCC-KC Graphic Design Guest Lecturer Series
Skills: Photoshop. InDesign. GOALS: The goal of this project was to create a poster, takeaway, and mailer for a mock guest lecturer series for the MCC-KC Graphic Design program As part of this project you were asked to choose a designer that inspired you. I chose Neville Brody as my speaker. His use of bright color, out of the box artwork, and choices of typography really inspired me. He also has had the opportunity to work in many facets of industry. For this piece I chose to focus on just his album covers. Most are very brightly colored and daring. They were the inspiration for my color choices and a large close up picture of him being the center of the whole pieces. I broke his portrait out into 5 different layers adding a mask to each one. Then I dropped a collection of album covers onto each layer, adding a colored overlay and adjusting the fill as needed. As part of the project we were to create a takeaway as well as a mailing piece.

Goals:

This project started in a screen printing class with the Martini poster.  It was a study on typography and registration.

That poster blossomed into a set of "Old Man Cocktails" posters.

My first quest was to find a classic quote.  After that I would sketch out what I wanted in the scene.  Then the hard part began.  Using many gradients, blending modes, textures and transparencies I finally got the prohibition feel I was looking for,

My biggest inspiration is the bold type used in the titles for the posters.
